In the early 1990s British and American horror film fans learnt about the giallo in fan publications such as Giallo Pages and European Trash Cinema which created interest and led to the forming of a Euro-Cult fan culture centred around the giallo film and other cycles of Italian cult cinema, such as the poliziesco and spaghetti western.
A typical giallo film narrative will feature a crazed black- gloved serial killer murdering beautiful women in varying in exaggerated fashions. Featuring Arsenio Hall (Coming to America) and written and directed by Scott Sanders (Thick as Thieves), Black Dynamite is a raucous homage to a long forgotten genre.The giallo film was based on pulp crime novels that were popular in Italy from 1929 onwards, the popularity eventually leading to film adaptations of several giallo stories. Upon meeting and romancing the beautiful, socially-minded orphan activist Gloria (Salli Richardson-Whitfield: I Am Legend), Black Dynamite decides to clean up the streets, declaring war on the scourges of the ghetto. In the process of solving his brother's murder, Black Dynamite uncovers a bigger plan by ‘The Man' to pump dope into the local orphanages and flood the ghetto with dubious malt liquor aimed to upset a soul brother's mojo. Tracing a bullet casing left at the scene of the crime, Black Dynamite finds himself battling pool hall thugs, pimps, pushers and monsters. When Black Dynamite's brother Jimmy is mysteriously killed, the CIA calls him back into action. With his soul brother brand of Kung Fu, he strikes fear into the hearts of suckers and chumps on both sides of the law, and with his super cool style, keeps the ladies begging for more. This ex-CIA commando rules the streets with a 44-Magnum in one hand and nunchucks in the other.
